ABSTRACT

You are asked to see a patient in the emergency department who is making a lot of noise. The Hatter has come in with his friend, the March Hare, and a lost looking girl called Alice. The March Hare explains that they were just having a nice cup of tea when the Hatter started rambling and talking nonsensically about time. When speaking with the Hatter, he seems to jump from one idea to another and believes someone, the ‘Queen of Hearts,’ is out to kill him and wants to cut off his head. He speaks in riddles and keeps reciting poetry. The Hare is unsure about the Hatter’s past medical history but thinks he may have a background of schizophrenia. The Hatter becomes increasingly agitated and starts becoming aggressive, breaking up items in the room and cutting himself on a smashed clock.
