ABSTRACT

Casanova, a dashing Venetian, presents to your clinic complaining of a penile discharge. He reports that this has been going on now for several days. He is initially quite evasive but then explains that he has had multiple sexual partners in the past 4 weeks. On further questioning, he reports having intercourse with five ladies but is concerned as they are all married and he does not want their husbands to find out. On examination, he has a purulent discharge, is afebrile and otherwise has no significant past medical history. You swab the discharge and it comes back as a gram-negative diplococcus and you give him intramuscular ceftriaxone.
