ABSTRACT

There are two principal methodologies: reinforced in-situ concrete frames or precast concrete frames. In the cast in-situ method formworks are erected to contain the wet concrete and form the element, steel reinforcement is installed within the form work or the formwork is erected around the steel reinforcement, concrete is then pumped into the form. Vertical formwork is commonly erected around the reinforcement on all sides and can be plywood and timber or purpose-made aluminium forms clamped together. Comprises plywood sheet are formed with timber framing or proprietary aluminium or steel sheet forms to provide a level deck for steel reinforcement bars on spacers and as a soffit form for the subsequent pour of wet concrete. Reinforcement is placed as near to the outside as practicable, with sufficient cover of concrete over the reinforcement to protect the steel bars from corrosion and to provide a degree of fire resistance.
