ABSTRACT

The Software Management Domain is focused on the specific management tasks a Software Project Manager must address. This chapter addresses the following software management domain: software project planning and oversight; software risk management and mitigation; technical and management reviews; assurance of critical requirements; software subcontractor management; software verification and validation; system retirement or disposal; and definition of project success. It also addresses the management process for identification, mitigation, and tracking of software-related risks. Joint reviews demonstrate progress-to-date on project work products and provide a forum for discussing programmatic issues and risks. Software management has cognizance over the Software Development Plan (SDP) including the software management and quality control plans. The SDP is considered a “living” document that must be updated periodically throughout the Software Development Life Cycle. Site-specific SDPs are written and maintained by their development sites, and they provide additional standards and procedures specific to their site.
