ABSTRACT

The objective of Corporate Environmental Management is to increase the overall effectiveness by which organizational resources committed to environmental restoration are used. The assessment focuses on not only overall environmental management goal setting but also the adequacy of the detailed technical planning, regulatory documentation, and cost estimation vis-à-vis the results desired and achieved. The first component is an internal survey of key environmental personnel and various key interface personnel throughout the company’s operating units. The internal assessment confirms the effectiveness of the company’s environmental management program, both from a compliance issue with management and from an internal culture development standpoint. Corporations are advised to evaluate in some detail the company’s vulnerabilities regarding facilities, production line impacts, transportation impacts, labor disruption impacts, hazardous release and cleanup issues, and potential direct facility damage and repair, as well as potential emergency permitting requirements that may be needed under various disaster-related scenarios.
