ABSTRACT

Disciplinary policies as related to the failure to follow safety and health rules and requirements are often an area of intersection. In summation, the safety and health function is responsible for safeguarding the safety and health of all employees each and every day. This responsibility requires a unique and exceptional skill set within the art as well as science arenas as well as the fortitude and professionalism to champion the safety and health function within the organization or company. Company and organizational policies, ranging from attendance through discipline, can and do impact the safety and health function. Enforcement of disciplinary policies, which includes violation of safety and health rules, should be within the function of the supervisory ranks or the human resource function. Fair and consistent enforcement of safety and health rules is imperative as well as the necessary documentation and recordkeeping required within our litigious society.
