ABSTRACT

A 60-year-old woman was admitted to hospital with fever and rigors. She described a 3-day history of worsening dysuria and left flank pain. She reported feeling intermittently hot and cold with several episodes of shaking uncontrollably. She felt nauseated and had vomited twice. Her past medical history included depression and osteoarthritis. She took no regular medications. She worked as a dance instructor and lived with her partner.
