ABSTRACT

A 45-year-old man attended a routine assessment at the sexual health clinic, where a sexually transmitted infection screen identified that the patient’s blood was positive for HIV. He was referred to the local HIV clinic and commenced anti-retroviral therapy later that week. The patient denied experiencing any symptoms and reported that he had been well over recent months. He had no significant past medical history and took no regular medications. He worked as a librarian and lived with his partner. He drank 10 units of alcohol per week and had never smoked.
