ABSTRACT
A 68-year-old woman was admitted to hospital with fever and right flank pain of 48-h duration. She had also felt nauseated and experienced dysuria for the preceding 72 h. She had no past medical history and her only regular medication was hormone replacement therapy. She worked as a journalist, drank approximately 8 units of alcohol per week and had never smoked.
