ABSTRACT

A 62-year-old man presented to the emergency department complaining of a painful left knee. He reported that the pain developed 3 days earlier and had gradually progressed. He had not experienced swelling of any other joints and had been generally well with no fevers or recent illnesses. He had not experienced any trauma. His past medical history included hypertension and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. He was unable to recall his regular medications. He worked as a shop manager and did not drink alcohol regularly. He had never smoked.
