ABSTRACT

An online survey was designed to collect data about students’ general awareness of cybersecurity and their overall behaviour and perception of privacy, authentication, and trust. The Qualtrics online survey software was used to deploy the survey. The online survey has been used in many investigations due to its effectiveness in reaching the targeted population, easy access and completion, rapid data collection, and cost of implementation. In response to the question regarding students’ knowledge of the concept of cybersecurity, only 32% agreed that they are knowledgeable, 47% believed that they have average knowledge, and 21% reported that they are not knowledgeable. The respondents were asked to select the information type that they consider to be private. The data that respondents found most private was bank account information, contact information, pictures, location, online search history, internet protocol address on the device, and others. Sixty per cent of students believe that they are being observed online without their consent.
