ABSTRACT

Intuitively, a network of automata can be thought of as a set of interacting elements. We will return to using discrete mathematics in order to simplify the elements of this set as much as we cam. We therefore abandon continuous mathematics for the time being. Let's begin with time: instead of being a real variable, as it is in physics, in this model, time is broken up into even intervals numbered from 1 to n. The variables, represented by automata, are updated during each interval. Therefore it makes sense to represent time by a whole number:

t = {0,1,2,3,....,n,...}.
