ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the analytic frameworks that can be used to determine technical parameters. A project evaluation's ultimate objective is to assess welfare effects, in this case the effects of soil erosion control programs. The quantification of on-farm effects on productivity is a complex task. Many steps must be taken before it is possible to assess the potential effects of soil erosion on the soil's productive capacity. Erodibility is the susceptibility of a soil to erosion. Strictly speaking, it is the intrinsic properties of a soil that prevent or allow detachment and transport of particles. The factors influencing soil erosion how many tonnes of topsoil are lost in any given area. Advances in agricultural technology are crucial to the control of erosion. Several models have been developed to estimate and simulate changes in erosion rates. Computer models have also been developed to translate the effects of erosion into yield estimates.
