ABSTRACT

The investigational phase has provided data which will be used to simulate the factor and product relationships of the existing farming system. In most experimental work, treatment levels and treatment interrelationships examined will be decided by bringing knowledge in the field of plant/environment relationships to bear on the local situation. With treatments identified and ranked in order of congruity, the second and third groups of problems listed concern the levels of the input and output coefficients to be adopted for each reduction in congruity. The reliability of expected production levels has been noted as a criterion for the evaluation of innovations qualifying the profitability criterion. The use of a farm unit as a tool in farm economics features extensively in the literature under a range of names from “experimental” farms to “example” or “demonstration” farms, and it has performed as large a range of functions.
