ABSTRACT
The different technique is used for automatic detection of an oil spill from the surrounding sea. This algorithm is based on the fractal algorithm which is framed on the fractal box counting. In comparison to the earlier chapters, this algorithm provides a new pattern of the oil spill and look-alike detections. Good discrimination between oil spill, look-alike, low wind zone and sea surface roughness exists when the error standard deviation is between 0.002 and 0.45 as produced by the implementation of the fractal modified formula. The reason is that the fractal dimension is a measure of the scale of the self-similarity of the object. The low standard deviation error value of 0.002 for a fractal area of 1.49.
