ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview and basic description of typical space systems, including their key components, functions, and architectures. Types of space systems are introduced, including communications, sensing, navigation, and imaging. The space, ground, and user segments are described including how their interconnection forms the system architecture. The difference between parallel, series, and hybrid architectures is illustrated. The detailed functions of each segment are also discussed.
