ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 combines the mathematical models of Chapter 5 with the design process described in Chapter 6 to produce multiple system design examples to illustrate the practical aspects of resilient design. This includes considering different system views for the purposes of approaching the design, such as multilayer architectures. Many different design approaches are studied using these examples in increasingly more complex scenarios. The trades between distribution and protection as well as the introduction of forms of diversification and rapid reconstitution provide contrasting results in performance, cost, and resilience. Designing for resilience to multiple threats is also explored.
