ABSTRACT

Systematic review and meta-analysis methods are well-developed in the field of clinical research and they involve collation of the literature on a specific area, and assessment of the extent and quality of studies performed, often including quantitative estimation of risk estimates from combined studies. Apart from providing transparency and reproducibility, these methods also ensure ease of updating. These methods help in identifying gaps in the knowledge base and areas for future research. There are numerous gaps in pesticide management for vector control measures. Major gaps were generally observed in countries in pesticide procurement practices, training on vector control decision-making, certification and quality control of pesticide application, monitoring of worker safety, public awareness programme, and safe disposal of pesticide-related waste. Only a few cases of health symptoms related to pesticide poisoning are reported in health centres. This reflects the gaps in pesticide documentation.
