ABSTRACT

Planet earth is endowed with rich natural resources, such as water, forests, minerals, and productive land. This chapter discusses the laws India has passed for preventing the depletion of natural resources. It explains how to manage water for public health and safety, agriculture, industry, and ecosystem, as well as the costs involved. The chapter describes various integrated water management systems that treat water supply and wastewater management comprehensively. It also discusses sustainable management of forest and mineral resources. Integration of rainwater harvesting and wastewater management will enable the most efficient use of water resources and prevent water shortages and flooding during storm events. India has taken an aggressive role in developing renewable energy resources, but this industry is in its infancy. Gas and oil resources are concentrated in a few areas of the world, especially in the Middle East where wars have been raging since 1948.
