ABSTRACT

In India, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change is a multidisciplinary regulatory body for environmental protection and conservation in the country. The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 is an umbrella act for the protection and improvement of environment and for matters connected with it. An state environment impact assessment authority shall be constituted by the Central Government under Sub-section (3) of Section 3 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, comprising three members, including a chairman and a member–secretary to be nominated by the state government or the union territory administration. The National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 ensures the effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources, including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
