ABSTRACT

The existing parking infrastructure is not sustainable as it uses too much land. Technology has the potential to improve parking services, integration of parking and transportation services, and real accountability of all stakeholders. The existing infrastructure with meter and gate technology lasted for over seventy-five years. We need to think of a new infrastructure to last for several decades if not another hundred years. Visionary ideas are required. There are, of course, dilemmas around implementing those ideas. Technology can help revolutionize the paradigm and steer in the right direction for the benefit of all stakeholders. This chapter articulates those thoughts for readers so that they can convince decision makers of their choice through market dynamics.
