ABSTRACT

New technology costs money – that was the premise against any change in parking services for long time. It has also been proven that an incremental technology injection within the current configuration may cost more in the end. Hard numbers for web-based services suggest cost improvement once on-street and off-street parking are combined with no meter and no gate. In fact, costs per space go down if more spaces are added to the web-based parking application. In addition, it becomes easier to add or delete revenue-generating spaces with simple software code changes. Technology has advanced so much and parking woes have increased so far a revolutionary change is required. RWPTTP has been formulated to show a clear path to remove all parking woes and at the same time enhance an integrated transportation service with convenience. Cost elements are still at an early stage but indications are inn our favor. A full RWPTTP implementation indicates that the benefits outweigh the cost of the technology. With such a strategy, the payoff period may be shortened. But the scope of RWPTTP is so huge it cannot be overlooked by forward-looking thinkers and implementers.
