ABSTRACT

Globally, impressive changes have taken place since World War II. The nation-states have given attention to growth, mainly growth of industry. Consumption is becoming an ideology since basic human needs have been more than fully met in the highly industrialized countries. Globally, the agricultural sector is large. The need for proactive agricultural sciences for future development is critical. It is not confined to technical knowledge but also includes the ability to make synthesis to provide some guidance towards the future. In the least developed countries, the agricultural sector accounts for some 80 per cent of the labour force and about 50 per cent of the gross domestic product. Farmers themselves are good in synthesis in their production. In late 2003, more than half of the same aroid farmers were revisited in Trinidad. In early 2004, more than half of the same Ethiopian farmers were revisited and so were all remaining Swedish farmers once consulted in 1980.
