ABSTRACT

In the applied science the quintescence of the theoretical knowledge and of the experimental data about the chemistry and engineering of the materials used for formulation provides the formulation principles. In this chapter, the authors consider the synthesis and synthesis related formulation of the adhesive raw materials, therefore understanding of the principles of mixing. Generally, the off-line synthesis and formulation for such synthesis are carried out in specialized chemical works. In the common industrial practice formulation of the pressure-sensitive adhesives means blending of off-line synthesized raw materials. Crosslinkable formulations may contain different proportions of carboxy functional monomers depending on the base monomers and on the end use of the pressure-sensitive adhesives. Formulation for removability is based on the adequate choice of monomers and polymerization conditions which allows the build up of a polymeric network with low adhesivity and high energy absorbance. Thus, limited adhesive-substrate contact is built up, no high peeling force is needed.
