ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the hardware required to formulate pressure-sensitive products. The formulation basis includes knowledges about the raw materials of the formulation and about the equipment employed for the formulation. The semi-pressure-sensitive products display limited pressure sensitivity in time. They lose their pressure sensitivity due to their crystallization. Vinylacetate can be plasticized by copolymerization with ethylene, acrylates or maleic acid n-butylester. From the range of vinylacetate copolymers usable for pressure-sensitive adhesives and pressure-sensitive products ethylene-vinylacetate (binary or multicomponent) copolymers are the most important products. Certain chemical substances modify the adhesive properties or the mechanical performance characteristics which influence the adhesive properties also. Physical additives allow processing of the pressure-sensitive product components and facilitate the end use of the finished product. Solubilizers are substances that improve the water solubility of the adhesive formulation. Thus they improve the wet removability of pressure-sensitive products.
