ABSTRACT

The radiation-chemical technology of polymers is a promising field of development of the chemical industry and other industries using polymer materials. Radiation processes require lower energy expenditure than conventional chemical processes. The social effect mainly concerns environment protection, industrial sewage treatment, and the radiation safety of the process as well as the effect of the products resulting from radiation processing on consumer psychology, even if they are absolutely radiation safe. In order to ensure the safety of personnel, dangerous and harmful industrial factors are controlled, mainly radiation-controlled. Hence, the most important aspect of the social effect is both the safety of radiation industry itself and that of the materials and articles produced. The highest efficiency of radiation processing of thin-layer specimens is achieved with electron accelerators. Soviet specialists pay great attention to the possibility of using nuclear reactors of atomic power stations for the radiation-chemical industry.
