ABSTRACT

This chapter pulls together what healthcare professionals have found, and helps they make sense of what it means for them career. The three major facets of healthcare professionals' life — their values, them strengths and what they would like to contribute — are really all their need to plan not only them career, but their whole life. The task may be to choose between just two or three careers, specialist areas within a particular career, or just between specific jobs. Sometimes people have choices to make within their current job, and very often what stimulates people to seek help with their career is a simple dilemma: to stay in a particular job or not. At one end of the spectrum he could give up work completely and devote himself to his sporting career for the foreseeable future. Similar variations in career progression are to be found in nursing and professions allied to medicine, perhaps even more so.
