ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a framework for considering how to think about these issues. Strategy is ‘a plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal’ (Wikipedia). In the corporate world, this translates into corporate strategy. Business strategy is not divorced from corporate strategy, as it is essential to understand the market to compete well. The values are the heuristic patterns that the organisation wishes to engender. The vision outlines where the organisation aspires to be and what they want to be known for. The mission statement clarifies what needs to be done to achieve this. The objectives need to be measurable targets against which success can be judged. Sharp will attain this position by transforming the healthcare experience through a culture of caring, quality, service, innovation and excellence. Sharp will be recognized by employees, physicians, patients, volunteers and the community as the best place to work, the best place to practice medicine and the best place to receive care.
