ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how to choose the right Masters in Business Administration (MBA) for each individual. It provides a framework for how to think about the various options, and to allow potential students to make informed choices. For many doctors, the realisation that a further degree with a management flavour is of interest to them develops from an event, or series of events, related to clinical practice. Full-time courses allow individuals the opportunity to immerse themselves in the business school: the MBA becomes the students’ world for the duration of the course. The most extreme choices within executive programmes are between distance and in-person programmes. An important consideration when deciding therefore on whether distance learning is the best approach, is of the learning style that best suits the individual. It may be that a teaching system dependent on self-motivation and focus is the modality of choice.
