ABSTRACT

The severity of an injury is largely dependent on Luck Factor 3 and many safety pioneers and safety management research confirm this fact. The degree of injury could range from a minor abrasion requiring only a plaster to a fatal injury. The injury, and more specifically the extent of injury, is what are traditionally linked closest to the terms “safety” and “accident.” Most people focus on injuries and the focus is intensified by the severity of the injury. The most popular significant injury being the “lost-time injury,” or the more modem version “the disabling-injury.” The disabling-injury definition is similar to the “losttime” except it is more explicit and states that the injured employee is temporarily partially or totally disabled for a shift other than the shift on which he was injured. Safety and health legislation around the world also require injuries, based on the extent of the injury, to be recorded and reported.
