ABSTRACT

The fabric produced with elastane has potential application in the area of sportswear. The main purpose of including elastane in sportswear is to provide the required stretch and recovery property and compression based on the application. The use of compression garments in high-active sports has a significant impact on performance by reducing muscle soreness. Similarly, a normal fabric may not withstand the extreme stretch applied repeatedly during sports activity. To provide these specific properties to sportswear over conventional formal and casual wear, elastane yarns were introduced into sports textiles. This chapter critically evaluates the impact of elastane use in the compression garment on performance improvement. Further to add, the chapter details the effect of elastane content on the stretch and recovery, and comfort properties of the sportswear.
