ABSTRACT
Forensic odontology – the application of dentistry to forensic problems – is a discipline in itself and requires special dental expertise not possessed by pathologists qualified only in medicine. It is therefore imperative that, wherever possible, problems involving the teeth and jaws are referred to a dentist at an early stage, preferably at the time of the original autopsy or other examination of the subject.
