ABSTRACT

The teams of hundreds of specialist scientists and engineers had achieved this incredible feat by harnessing the amazing power generated when specialisation, communication and co-operation are used to solve a complex and difficult task. Approximately half the blood volume is slightly salted water, carrying all sorts of goodies around the body. This liquid is the source of nutrient for all of the 50 trillion cells in the body. The 50 trillion cells that arose from a fertilised egg have undergone such an astonishing strategy of specialisation, communication and cooperation to produce a being with a degree of complexity that makes rockets and space shuttles look like childrens’ toys. The vast majority of cells are so small that they can be seen only by using a microscope. Their physical form is like that of a tiny soap bubble - a thin flexible membrane separating the internal environment from the external one.
