ABSTRACT
In this book Sobolev and BV spaces are widely used as domains in which variational problems are settled. In the present chapter we briefly introduce them, at least in the case of derivatives of order one, together with their main properties. We refer to [A], [AFP], [EG], [Gu], [Z] for general references of the matter.
