ABSTRACT
The Aitken extrapolation, the Shanks transform and the Wynn algorithm can all be inductively derived from a single geometric sequence. This chapter presents the derivation of Shanks transform for the geometric sequence, showing that the Shanks transform appears as a direct extension of the Aitken extrapolation to an arbitrary order. The Wynn algorithm represents a numerical technique for avoiding inefficient computations of the determinants for higher ranks that are encountered in applications of the Shanks transform.
