ABSTRACT

Nylon is one of the most widely produced, multipurpose fibers. A fiber is clamped in between the clamps of the tensile test apparatus. One of the clamps is fixed, and the other is pulled in one direction for a period of time, during which the stress and strain on the fiber are measured. Abaqus Complete Abaqus Environment (CAE) is capable of simulating a tensile test procedure. The tensile test analysis of a nylon fiber performed using Abaqus CAE Standard software was conducted. In terms of a displacement caused by tension applied to one of the edges of a nylon fiber, both mathematical calculations and modeling in Abaqus CAE provide the same result, which is displacement value 0.004 mm. A three-dimensional (3D) model of a nylon fiber created in Abaqus CAE is an elastic body subject to loads in a 3D Cartesian coordinate system, where a 3D system of stresses and strains is developed.
