ABSTRACT

A square matrix with a zero determinant is referred to as a singular matrix; otherwise a square matrix is called nonsingular. Simply supported and cantilever truss girders are thrustless structures. Cantilever truss girders supported at only one end are taken for thrustless as well, because the total horizontal reaction of the supporting wall produced by vertical loads is equal to zero for these trusses. Arched truss girders are thrusted structures. Many trusses have names which distinguish them by a combination of characteristics, usually by the purpose, the shape of chords, and the web type. In truss bridges, the superstructure includes two plane main trusses located on either side of the deck. Main trusses are combined into a superstructure by a system of lateral beams, struts, and bracings.
