ABSTRACT

The framework of multi-story building is often implemented as a spatial steel frame consisting of columns and beams connected in joints at the level of every floor. The basic method of calculation of latticed elastoplastic frames is known as the method of combining mechanisms. Each of the independent mechanisms possible in a given frame defines the set of plastic hinges in the limit state of the frame. In development of elastic perfectly plastic structures’ theory, it is a portal frame with a gabled girder that was the main object of analysis. There is an alternative method known as the method of adjusting bending moments to ultimate values, which has been specially developed for analysis of continuous beams and often is simpler in implementation. For calculation of bending moments, the statics equations are used – inter alia, while determining the shear force at the span’s boundary.
