ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 discusses droplet and spray combustion. It starts with a phenomenological description of spray formation by disintegration of liquid sheets and jets. Evaporation and combustion of a stationary isolated droplet are analysed. Multi-component and high-pressure effects on droplet evaporation are also discussed. A phenomenological description of spray combustion in terms of group combustion theory is introduced. Finally a one-dimensional model of spray combustion is derived.
