ABSTRACT
Good air quality management starts with establishment of clear and achievable objectives/goal on air quality and has a regulatory framework that can set up implementable regulations and implement them. To evaluate the air quality, air sampling and monitoring are needed. This chapter deals with a brief coverage on the regulatory framework in the US It presents main components of the US federal law on air pollution control, the Clean Air Act, including national ambient air quality standards and emission standards for various sources. The chapter describes approaches on ambient air sampling and analysis. It analyses source testing and continuous monitoring on stationary sources. The chapter also presents emission inventories and emission factors. It discusses air pollution control philosophies and strategies. The ultimate goal of air pollution control is to protect humans and the ecosystem from excessive exposures to air pollutants.
