ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how Gas flow rates are related and illustrates the conversions among them. Similarly, gaseous pollutant concentrations are often expressed in ppm, mass concentration, or partial pressure. The chapter also illustrates conversions among them. It shows how to determine the residence time and mass loading rate. For a given pollution control device with a known physical configuration, the gas stream flow rate will determine the residence time and flow velocity in this control device. An emission capture and transport system is an integral part of an air pollution control and removal system. The chapter describes the main components of such a system, e.g., hood, fan, and ductwork. It demonstrates that some relevant engineering calculations. Process equipment in a factory may emit pollutants. Many processes are totally enclosed so that all the pollutants are transferred to the air pollution control device.
