ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses polygonal and spline modeling, and introduces different types of modifiers and deformers that can be used to quickly model complex shapes from simpler ones such as primitives. It focuses on the pre-production stage, especially on storyboarding, and describes a quick look at the other aspects of production. Pre-production serves as the foundation for the success of an animation. Animation is not only a labor- and resource-intensive process, but it also involves considerable amount of money. The basic idea behind thumbnails is to bring out ideas and explore. The basic pre-production elements in a movie, whether a regular movie or a computer graphics movie, involve many similar steps. Different aspects of graphics and animation have also been influenced by various major art forms, including those in the iron and bronze ages, medieval art, renaissance art, and modern art. The chapter also presents an overview on the key concepts discussed in this book.
