ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at into different forms of animation starting with hand-drawn animation that forms the foundation for the digital animation. It discusses the different kinds of popular stop-motion animation techniques such as clay animation, Lego© animation, and puppet animation. The chapter focuses on to the process of creating animation using key framing, which demonstrates how the parameters such as position and orientation change over a period of time. Scanning itself represents the process of digitally or electronically showing the pixels onto a digital display such as a monitor. In CG, interpolation is important for filling the frames between the key frames to ensure a smooth transition as the animation progresses from one key frame to the next. Motion capture refers to recording of the actions of human performers, animals, or even inanimate objects and transferring those movements to a digital character. Camera is a key component of the process of animation, especially as perceived by the audience.
