ABSTRACT

MicroCT systems contain various nonidealities, and their effects on reconstructions and amelioration of these “errors” are the subject of this chapter. Reconstruction artefacts are the first topic, and the second is the precision and accuracy of reconstructions. Examples are provided for reconstructions using analytic algorithms (Fourier-based reconstructions for the synchrotron microCT examples and filtered back-projection for the lab microCT data), which are by far the most widely used. The remaining sections cover techniques for contrast enhancement, data acquisition challenges, and speculations for future apparatus development.
