ABSTRACT

Weeds have always been part and parcel of all forms of agriculture, as have their prevention and control. Weed presence is less tolerated in arable cash crops than in grasslands though freedom from weeds becomes important when grass, grass+legume or legume crops are harvested for saleable hay or artificially dried forage products. In contrast, since grazed forage is not a saleable product per se, traditionally there has been less attention paid to weed control on grazed swards unless the problem is perceived as serious, whether visually or by its adverse effect on forage productivity.
