ABSTRACT

The fungal protoplast fusion and strain improvement is of global interest as the applications and utility value of fungi and fungal products are tremendous that they are focused in every field of science. In view of several obstacles encountered in parasexual cycle development of protoplast fusion technique was putforth by several scientists. Observations on different filamentous fungi and the combined presentation in terms of plates and figures will be useful for the beginners to look at the variations in the protoplast release, germination and elongation of primary hypha. Factors affecting the release of protoplasts from different filamentous and yeast fungi are records of informations and based on definite theory of understanding using protoplasts. Regeneration process of fungal protoplast is of prime importance to clarify protoplasts a viable one. Anucleated and nucleated protoplasts are compared critically to assess the importance of chromosomal DNA in the cell wall biogenesis of filamentous and yeast fungi.
