ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the reader is presented with what is needed to set oneself up for success before a video game project begins. This beginning of the story helps designers look at areas like the project itself to see if they want to take it on, what their environment will be like to help them accomplish the job from both the office and the home, and who will be around as allies to assist them in completing the game. Understanding these foundational building blocks sets the designer up to start the project right from day one, looking at all the areas that are commonly missed by people before they take on an adventure. By the conclusion of the chapter, the reader will understand what is needed to prepare for starting any video game project as a game designer.
