ABSTRACT
Module 8 investigates the practice of safety in design. It discusses design methodology and process. The module explores the concepts of hazard, risk, risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication. It discusses also the approaches of system safety, functional safety, safety integrity, safety instrumented systems, system safety analysis techniques (including failure modes and fault tree analysis), safety factors, and design margins. Presented also are ergonomics principles and types of standards and codes in engineering design.
