ABSTRACT

The description of 70 important bacterial plant diseases is given. It was not possible to include all the bacterial plant diseases, but economically important diseases of international importance and representative diseases of different crops and regions are described. Some of the described diseases, namely, bacterial wilt of solanaceous plants, citrus huanglongbing, citrus canker, Pierce’s disease of grapevine, bacterial blight of rice, and fire blight of apple and pears are of international importance and cause huge economic losses. A definite pattern of description is followed for all the diseases. In each disease, the information is organized under different heads, namely, host range, symptoms, causal organism, disease cycle, and management. The management strategies based on repeated field trials, wherever available in literature, are included for the effective management of the diseases. In order to make the phytobacteriology alive and correct diagnosis of the diseases, colored photographs of symptoms of these diseases are given. The latest information published in plant pathological and related biological journals until December issues of 2018 have been included in the book.
