ABSTRACT
In this book we are working towards an explanation and understanding of the way in which light interacts with atoms. Light is a manifestation of the electromagnetic wave and carries energy. In this chapter, an introduction to the electromagnetic wave is given which will be later expanded upon and then shown to be represented by photons, the quanta of the electromagnetic wave.
